Position overview
The Design and Publication Associate position is a full-time, entry-level consultancy role that requires on-site work in Chiang Mai. In this position, you will work with the Communications Manager to develop impactful designs and publications. Your work will involve collaborating with EarthRights staff and teams, as well as external service providers and vendors. You will be responsible for generating design ideas, producing graphics, vector illustrations, infographics, and other brand assets, and creating the layouts of multilingual publications.
To excel in this position, you must possess excellent communication, collaboration, and time management skills. You should have proficiency in design software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite. Furthermore, you should be knowledgeable in design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
Roles and responsibilities
The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and is intended only to provide an overview of the typical duties of a Design and Publication Associate. Note that the omission of a specific duty does not imply that it is excluded, especially if it is related to this role.
- Work together with EarthRights staff and teams to generate ideas for draft designs and layouts and develop strategies for implementation
- Assist in sourcing and creating agreements with external service providers and vendors
- Coordinate with EarthRights staff and external service providers to ensure design and publication projects meet the agreed requirements and deadlines
- Graphics, Vector Illustrations, and Infographics
- Produce graphics, vector illustrations, infographics, and other design assets for use in the organization’s informational materials, communication initiatives, activities, and events
- Create 2D video animation or motion graphics as needed
- Develop impactful visuals that simplify complex ideas and enhance communication
- Ensure that designs are visually appealing and engaging to the target audience
- Publications
- Coordinate with translators, editors, and proofreaders to ensure timely delivery of localized content for use in multilingual publications
- Create layouts that are visually appealing and easy to navigate to enhance reader experience
- Logically organize the content to improve comprehension and readability
- Branding
- Consistently follow the organization's branding guidelines for all design and publication projects
- Use the approved color palettes, fonts, icons, and other related visual identity elements
- Adapt existing brand assets or create new ones for exclusive use in the Mekong region
- Design and Publication Revisions and Approvals
- Gather feedback from EarthRights staff and external service providers and revise the designs and publications accordingly
- Review graphics, vector illustrations, infographics, and other design assets used to ensure accuracy, brand compliance, and consistency
- Meet design and publication project requirements and deadlines
- Develop a central repository to store the approved brand assets, designs, and publications
- If there is enough capacity, the consultant may undertake the following additional responsibilities:
- Oversee the contents and website of the Foundation for Culture and Environment Southeast Asia, as requested
- Assist EarthRights staff with IT-related issues and needs or coordinate with external service providers or vendors, as requested
Qualifications and experiences
- To be eligible for this role, you must meet the minimum qualifications listed below:
- Thai national
- Basic-level proficiency in English for reading, writing, and speaking
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, computer technology, or a related field. (If the applicant is unable to meet the educational requirement, an additional two years of relevant experience would be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree)
- 1-2 years of work experience in graphic designing or publication layouts. (New graduates with exceptional design skills are also welcome to apply)
- Proficient in using design software, including Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator (Applicants are required to submit work samples along with their CV)
- Ability to produce 2D video animation or motion graphics is preferred
- In addition, you should demonstrate the following essential traits:
- Fast learner and able to receive positive and negative feedback
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with others
- Consistently meet project requirements and deadlines
- Proactive and can work with minimal supervision
- Exceptional organization skills and detail-oriented
- The below experiences and skills are not mandatory but would be considered an advantage:
- Experience in creating designs and publications for non-profit organizations or charities
- Basic knowledge of website content management
- Experience in troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and network-related issues
Duration of work
This consultancy requires an immediate start. The ideal start date is February 2024 and the contract will end in December 2024. The possibility of extending the consultancy contract to 2025 for an additional 12 months or converting it to a fixed-term employee contract will depend on the consultant’s work performance, availability of funds, and the organization’s needs.
Payment and Benefits
The consultant will receive a monthly payment of 38,000 THB which may be subject to local taxes. During the recruitment stage, any other government-related deductions will be discussed. Furthermore, the consultant is eligible for health insurance, wellness allowance, paid annual leave, and free lunches at the office.
