About Labour Rights Foundation
Labour Rights Foundation, LRF is a migrant workers’ rights organization that empower migrant workers to protect themselves. LRF was known as a Migrant Workers Rights Network, MWRN which was founded on March 29, 2009 by a group of nine Myanmar migrant leaders who strongly believed that empowerment of migrants is the best way for migrants to protect themselves in their vulnerable situation. LRF's goal is to achieve quality of life of migrant workers and their families through access to justice and international rights and standards protections. In November 2020, MWRN successfully registered as an “association” under Thai Civil Code entitled “Labour Rights Foundation (LRF)”.
For the past ten years, the organization works to reduce labor and human rights violations and strengthening migrant workers community in Thailand through education and training migrant workers on labor rights and workers benefits, raising awareness of labor rights on social media platforms, and supporting workers' rights to association and collective bargaining.
As a grassroot organization, with several staff who speaking migrant's language, the organization has unfettered access to migrant worker communities and has received regular insights and grievances from migrant workers.
LRF's objectives are
- To promote the organizing, educating and empowerment of Myanmar Migrant Workers and their families to achieve quality of life;
- To promote enhanced protection of Myanmar Migrant Workers and their families by origin and destination countries' stakeholders;
- To promote effective access to justice for Myanmar Migrant Workers and their families who are victims of rights violation.
Roles and Responsibilities
Program Management:
- Lead the organization’s strategy and planning in organizing workers and in liaising with the Migrant Workers’ Community
- Manage key programmatic areas as well as oversee the Workers’ organizing activities including facilitating and conducting trainings on negotiating skills, setting up workers membership and dues monitoring and collection system;
- Prepare a written quarterly project progress report and an annual project implementation report towards the project’s objectives, identifying areas for focus and improvement and those requiring follow-up to meet donors’ requirement to be approved by the Director;
- Ensure transparency and correct project financial transactions and recordings;
- Manage the Program officers and Field Coordinators on membership recruitment and outreach activities that reach out to worker members directly
- Report directly to the Director
Advocacy and Partnership Management:
- Strategize and conduct advocacy and strategy initiatives for the protection of migrant workers
- Facilitate and conduct awareness raising and capacity building activities for migrant workers and their leaders in private enterprises and migrant communities;
- Represent the Labor Rights Foundation at the national and international flora, and media in order to leverage the visibility of the workers’ organizing program and the organization.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in planning, designing, organizing and implement workers’ organizing activities, preferably in the non-profit organization working environment.
- Years of experience in project management, people management, and leadership role in a multi-cultural setting.
- Experience in advocacy/campaign work and proven track record in developing and influencing policies and practices on migrant workers’ rights.
- Experience in capacity building with training, and facilitation
- Proven in-depth understanding of and knowledge on migration and labour rights in both sending and destination countries.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual skills with understanding of and commitment to diversity and gender equality with ability to integrate gender into programs and advocacy work
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, prioritize, plan, and organize work in high-pressure environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in Burmese, Thai, and/or English for representing the organization at public events.
- Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and able to work well under deadlines with minimum supervision and ability to work in resource-constrained settings.
- Ability to act as a critical team player, with excellent coordination and communication skills
- Ability to travel to remote area within the country and outside the country as required by the project
- A good command of computer proficiency including Microsoft Words, Excels, Power Point, and email corresponding.
