Introduction

SMRU is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome (UK).

The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the border Thailand and Myanmar. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

This combination of health care and research makes SMRU unique. The research agenda is driven by the questions we face in our clinical practice and whether clinical or laboratory based, our studies are designed to be of relevance to the population we serve.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

Patients care and management

  • Responsible for case management and supervision of clinical care for all patients, difficult cases of TB, MDR-TB and TB/HIV patients under responsibility  
  • Make the decision for patient referral and coordinate for smooth transfer of patient.
  • Ensure adherence to clinic hygiene and infection control procedures.
  • Monitor regularly clinical work and patients care
  • Contribute to programmatic management of TB projects

Coordination

  • Participate in the meetings (internal and external).
  • Coordinate and collaborate with NTP and other partners (Mae Tao clinic, Thai-Myanmar border hospitals and other NGOs and CBOs)
  • Contribute to advocacy events related to TB program

Monitoring and program coordination

  • Ensure proper and timely supervision for recording and collecting and updating files of patients and data.
  • Regular monitoring and supervision of project activities and supporting to the team to maintain quality care services
  • Contribute to data analysis, evaluation and reporting as necessary
  • Contribute to pharmacy monitoring and drug stock management
  • Contribution of proposal writing and budgeting for the program

Research

  • Conducting and contributing in research studies done at SMRU

Staff Management

  • Coach and supervise medics, nurses, counselors and health workers in their respective service provision on day to day basic provision.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate of medical doctor
  • 2 years minimum medical experience
  • Fluent in English and Burmese
  • The ability to motivate and lead a team
  • Commitment and honest
  • Good relationship
  • Empathy and nice to patients and colleague
  • Respect the team members, patients and other colleague
  • Accurate and serious in work, punctual
  • Good communication skills
  • Interest in clinical research/operational research
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Motivated and able to work under pressure ZA
  • Ready for any assignment required by the unit
  • Can travel to all clinic sites, remote areas

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in clinical research
