Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. 1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and the direct supervision of the Migration Health Officer (MHO) and in coordination with Prepardness, Response and Recovery Unit (PRRU), the successful candidate will be responsible for the carrying out the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the Migration Health Promotion and Assistance, and the health assistance to vulnerable communities under Preparedness, Response and Recovery activities.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct health screening and perform physical examination and clinical assessment at project locations,
- Provide appropriate and timely treatment for common illnesses and injuries, prescribe medications, and refer patients for laboratory and radiology tests, as needed, to confirm diagnosis or monitor treatment response, in coordination with the internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to urgent and emergency medical cases that require immediate attention and intervention, such as life-threatening conditions, severe infections, injuries, complications, mental health crises, etc.
- Provide health education and counseling to patients and their families, on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, chronic disease management, mental health, etc.
- Ensure the proper documentation and reporting of the medical cases, using the IOM health information system and tools.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to the IOM medical team, including nurses, midwives, psychologists, counselors and interpreters, on the clinical management of medical cases in project locations.
- Coordinate with the government officials and other relevant partners on the referral and transfer of the medical cases to the designated hospitals or clinics.
- Provide capacity building training to the IOM health staff and the relevant government officials on clinical topics and skills.
- Participate in meetings related to the IOM health program and the health network, when needed.
- Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors and stakeholders for the successful and timely implementation of above-mentioned duties and services.
- Undertake regular travels within and outside of duty station as may be required for official duties and providing health services to project locations.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
- University degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant professional experience;
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Tuberculosis-related disciplines or other related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience
- Valid license to practice within country is mandatory.
EXPERIENCE
- Professional continuous clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting;
- Knowledge of patient safety and infection prevention and control.
SKILLS
- Professional continuous clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting. The last clinical posting should be within the last three years.
- Good knowledge of clinical medicine.
- Excellent bedside manner.
- Knowledge of patient safety and infection prevention and control;
4. LANGUAGES
- Fluency in English and Thai is required (oral and written).
- Working knowledge in Thai language is a must, desirable to know Burmese.
