Introduction
Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome (UK).

The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the border Thailand and Myanmar. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

This combination of health care and research makes SMRU unique. The research agenda is driven by the questions we face in our clinical practice and whether clinical or laboratory based, our studies are designed to be of relevance to the population we serve.

 

Responsibilities:

This post will provide support to information management, security, network infrastructure, training and technology services to BHF & SMRU, operation staff and clinic/research beneficiaries. Coordinate and oversee IT projects relating to network design and architecture and/or equipment. Also support the BHF and SMRU’s users with IT infrastructure and systems.  Maintains information technology strategies by managing, researching and implementing technological strategic solutions.

 

The IT System Administrator is capable of all IT Helpdesk responsibilities and tasks and the following.

1. Research:

  • The System Administrator will regularly research and investigate to the IT Manager about complicated IT problems.
  • This position will support all BHF and SMRU operation teams, offices and clinics in finding and using new technologies for better information and data management.

 

2. Internal IT Functions:

  • Cooperate with related person for technical maintenance of BHF and SMRU website.
  • Implements policies and procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed, and corrected.
  • Recommends appropriate maintenance strategies to ensure uninterrupted systems usage and proper backup and recovery procedures.

 

3. Communications:

  • Provide on-going support to the IT Helpdesk.
  • Other duties delegated by IT Manager and Management.

 

Position requirements

  • Graduate degree (i.e., BSc in Data Management, Computer Science, or other science or mathematics).
  • Preferably Certified Microsoft Professional MCSE/MCSA or equivalent.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in installing, administering and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in system/network management.
  • Up-to-date knowledge and skills on latest developments in the IT systems field.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work with multiple levels of staff.
  • Ability to manage, train and support staff in IT.
  • Effective communication skills / good working knowledge in English.
  • Ability to work independently as well in a team in a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Ability to travel to remote clinic areas.
