Introduction
Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome (UK).

The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the border Thailand and Myanmar. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

This combination of health care and research makes SMRU unique. The research agenda is driven by the questions we face in our clinical practice and whether clinical or laboratory based, our studies are designed to be of relevance to the population we serve.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Laboratory management
  • Manage and monitoring specimen inventory and database
  • Manage and order lab supplies to ensure team always has enough supplies to use
  • Coordinate with other team/organization to run some lab activities
• Laboratory data analysis
  • Record lab data in relevant databases
  • Analysis data and report to supervisor
  • Provide lab result to the doctor
• Supervising and performing lab activities
  • Manage workflow and allocate works among the team members
  • Monitoring routine laboratory work to ensure that standards are maintained.
  • Monitor and ensure reagent preparation

• Manage workplan and monitor in in vitro culture of malaria parasites to use for drug susceptibility testing and other study.
• Identify malaria parasites species and staging by microscopy method

• Implementing new assay/techniques

Essential criteria

• Bachelor degree or equivalent in Biology or Life Science.
• Experience in a clinical or research laboratory would be an advantage.
• Experience in drug discovery would be an advantage.
• Good planning and organizing skills.
• Good Leadership skill.

Desirable criteria

• Able to work in another province and aboard

• Effective communication skills / good working knowledge in English and Thai
• The ability to work as part of a team.
• Able to work under pressure.
