Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.

IOM began its operations in Thailand in 1975, assisting the resettlement of Indo-Chinese refugees to countries offering them permanent residence. With the Kingdom of Thailand joining IOM as a member state in 1986, the organization's cooperation with the Royal Thai Government has expanded to cover all aspects of migration affecting the Kingdom and its neighbours, including labour migration, migration health, counter-trafficking, emergency and post crisis, institution building, border management, security and law enforcement.

Today, IOM has a strong presence in Thailand with over 350 personnel working on more than 50 active projects in eleven locations across the country. The IOM Mission in Thailand has a main office in central Bangkok, four sub offices and six other project offices in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang, Mae Sot and Samut Prakarn.

Under the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, and in close coordination with the Programme Managers, the successful candidate will assist in the implementation of media and community engagement initiatives, with the aim of fostering social cohesion between migrants and communities and improving access to information among migrants. In addition, they will provide graphic design support for production of information and communication materials.

 

2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support the implementation of capacity building initiatives aimed at strengthening accurate, balanced and evidence-based public discourse and media reporting on migration.
  • Support engagement and regular liaison with media and civil society stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials regarding the rights and protection of migrant workers.
  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community outreach and awareness raising activities on migrants’ rights and safe migration.
  • Liaise with vendors on the production and translation of IEC materials into different migrant languages.
  • Assist to enhance the visibility of programme activities by covering events and facilitating media coverage of events.
  • Conduct video interviews with project beneficiaries and draft short stories. 
  • Support the development, management and updating of content on IOM Thailand’s website and social media accounts.
  • Monitor media coverage on the mission’s work and other media developments on migration. 
  • Undertake duty travel when necessary. 
  • Perform other duties as required. 

 

3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences or related fields from an accredited academic institution, with one year of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma with three years of relevant experience.

 

Experiences:

  • Experience in supporting graphic design and content production.
  • Experience in supporting community engagement, outreach, advocacy or awareness raising initiatives.
  • Experience in running digital campaign is an advantage.
  • Good grasp of migration dynamics and the media landscape in Thailand.
  • Good grasp of migration dynamics in Thailand is an advantage.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Experience in liaising with government, media and civil society partners is an advantage.
  • Experience in digital content creation, including graphic design and editing.

 

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g.  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills
  • Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and/or PremierePro.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and Thai.
  • Skilled in digital content creation, including graphic design, photography, videography, and editing.
  • Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and/or PremierePro.
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability in time management and schedule organization.
  • Ability to work in a multi‐cultural environment and respect of diversity.
  • Teamwork-oriented but with a capacity to work independently.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Thai (oral and written) is required.
  • Working knowledge in Khmer, Lao or Burmese is desirable.
