Project Assistant

 

I. Background

Chulalongkorn University and Kyushu University (Japan) are the main implementing agencies of the “Project for the Formation of a Center of Excellence for Marine Plastic Pollution Studies in the Southeast Asia Seas”. The Project has been implemented under the international cooperation scheme called “Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS)” that is jointly promoted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

SATREPS aims to develop new technologies and to apply them for tackling global issues and also aims at capacity development of researchers and research institutes in both recipient country and Japan.  

The purpose of this project is to establish a sustainable framework of monitoring and management of marine plastics in the Southeast Asian Seas through establishment of an academic center of excellence in Thailand. The project started in October 2021 and will continue until October 2026.

We are recruiting a project assistant to accelerate our works towards realization of project purpose.

 

II. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall direction of the JICA Expert (Project Coordinator) the project assistant will support to manage/ coordinate the smooth and timely implementation of the project and the progress of activities through;

  • Coordinating with partners of Thai side and Japanese side and making sure that activities continue with minimal downtime and/or without interruption from a workflow.
  • Ensuring that all activities conform to local and national standards of Thailand.
  • Identifying and resolving problems to mitigate risks to the project.
  • Supporting administrative tasks such as preparation of official documents and facilitation of communications among the partners necessary for the collaborative works between Thai and Japan.

 

III. Requirements (Qualifications and Experience)

  1. Bachelor’s degree or above
  2. Native language in Thai and excellent speaking, reading and writing ability in English (Knowledge of Japanese language will be an advantage).
  3. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, email, online meeting, SNS and cloud storage).
  4. Work experiences in government organization, university and international organization in Thai will be of an advantage.

 

IV. Competencies

  1. Willingness to learn new things.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  4. Attitude and flexibility to follow rules of the JICA project.

 

V. Working information

1. Place of duty:

Mainly works in Chulalongkorn University campus with occasional travels mainly to the project site in Samaesan area, Chonburi Province and/or any other provinces where research sites are located.

2. Duration of an employment contract:

The employment period is one year (expected to starting from September 2024), and the contract will be renewed yearly until the end of project period upon performance evaluation. In addition, at the end of first three months, consultation will be made between the employer and employee to confirm their willingness for contract continuation.

3. Normal working hours:

9:00 to 17:00 (lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00) from Monday to Friday, except public holidays.

4. The starting gross salary shall be calculated based on the academic background and relevant work experiences in accordance with internal regulations (Ranging from 30,400 to 37,900 THB per month). Commuting allowance, overtime allowance, travel allowance for official trip as well as social security insurance allowance is provided but there is no bonus payment.
