Position Title               :  Senior Project Assistant

Duty Station                :  Bangkok, Thailand

Classification              :  General Service (G-6, THB 90,432.33 per month)

Type of Appointment  :  Special Short-Term Contract

                                      Initial 6 months with possibility of extension

Estimated Start Date  :  As soon as possible

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under the supervision of the Head of Preparedness, Response and Recovery Unit, the successful candidate will contribute to addressing protection risks of and material and service support to Rohingya refugees and other vulnerable migrants in Immigration Detention Centres, Shelters for Children and Families, and Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking in Thailand.

 

2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Regularly coordinate and communicate with relevant stakeholders, including the Royal Thai Government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs, and CBOs, to coordinate on-going interventions between the actors.
  • Monitor the implementation of activities in line with agreed project documents, budgets, timelines, indicators, results and other project requirements and propose adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensure successful implementation of projects, which can include meeting with key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, organizing workshops, meeting and conferences, conducting monitoring and evaluation, researching irregular migration, etc.
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance and monitoring to junior project staff, to ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with project work plans. Supervise other staff, on-call staff, consultants and interns as assigned.
  • Ensure that the donor’s visibility requirements are met and executed including any communications activities that may be requested.
  • Assess and monitor the material and service support needs in various project locations in terms of protection, health, nutrition, non-food items (NFIs) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
  • Closely monitor Royal Thai Government’s policy relating to project activities and provide updates on policy developments to project staff.
  • In coordination with the Project Officer, contribute to the development, submission and endorsement of new project proposals and funding opportunities related to protection and assistance to stranded migrants in Thailand.
  • Prepare regular updates, programme summaries and other relevant infomaterials and statistics, according to the specific project needs.
  • Regularly monitor the Migrant Information Application (MIA) database.
  • Conduct field visits to various locations for monitoring and needs assessments when deemed necessary.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Social Science, or any related field from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant work experience.
  • Or, high school degree with at least six years of relevant work experience.

 

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in migration or humanitarian issues with non‐governmental organizations, international governmental organizations or government institutions.

 

SKILLS

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization
  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming
  • Knowledge of financial rules and regulations
  • Familiarity with computer programmes, including MS Office programmes
  • Sound knowledge of programme implementation and evaluation

 

4. LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in Thai and English is required (oral and written).
