Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces

 

Job Overview/Summary:
The Senior Driver works as part of the Mae Hong Son Operations team to ensure safe transportation, effective vehicle maintenance, developing and scheduling transportation movements for IRC staff in Mae Hong Son and visitors in compliance with the IRC vehicle policies and procedures. 

 

Major Responsibilities:  
Ensure effective transportation for Mae Hong Son field site with safety and follow IRC policy and Thai law. 
Vehicles Operating
•    Organize transportation schedules and supervise transportation assignments for all drivers on a weekly basis.
•    Conduct proper and timely routine check-ups, maintenance, and repair vehicles in accordance with IRC policies for all IRC vehicles.
•    Supervise drivers to ensure all vehicles are cleaned both inside and outside.
•    Provide guidance to drivers on vehicle maintenance activities with preventive care measure for vehicle management.
•    Drive safely for transportation of IRC authorized personnel.
•    Monitor vehicle log-sheets, daily vehicle inspection checklist (V17) and ensure they are filled accurately. 
•    Ensure daily check of safe transportation and loading for all IRC staff, visitors, emergency medical referral (EMR) patients including program supplies and equipment.
•    Monitor fuel consumption and check balance of fuel pre-paid on weekly basis and coordinate with Mae Hong Son gas station.
•    Ensure all vehicles’ keys are kept properly in safe place.
•    Proper file all vehicle log-sheets on monthly basis.

Vehicles Maintenance

•    Take care of daily maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check engine oil, water, battery, brake and responding to vehicles maintenance service when due. 
•    Monitor and in charge of replenishment of first aid kits, safety equipment, on board documents and maintenance tools in all the vehicles.


Other duties/responsibilities

•    Participate in professional vehicle training activities annually.
•    Provide safe driving skills/test to field drivers as needed.
•    Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Key Working Relationships: 
Position Reports to:  Supply Chain Officer
Position directly supervises:  N/A
Indirect Reporting:  Senior Supply Chain Officer, Field Coordinator
Other Internal and/or external contacts: 
Internal: Operations and Programs staff in Mae Hong Son and other field sites as needed
External: Vehicle maintenance service providers, NGOs, local authorities as needed

Job Requirements: 
Education: At least High School Certificate 

Work Experience: 
•    5 years’ experience in driving off-road with challenge rough road conditions
•    Experience in vehicle maintenance.
•    Experience in organizing transportation schedules and assignments for drivers.  
•    Experience in coordination with programs staff, driver team, vehicle maintenance service providers, and concerned local authorities.   

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
•    Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to prioritize tasks and mentor other staff members.
•    Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
•    Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written.
•    Service mind and trouble shooting skills.
•    Basic computer proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel.

Language Skills:  
•    Good command of written and spoken Thai and local language is preferrable (Karen or Karrenni).
•    Basic English (writing and speaking).

Certificates or Licenses: Valid Thai Driving License  

 

Working Environment: The position will be based in Muang Mae Hong Son District, Mae Hong Son Province with regular travel to Ban Mai Nai Soi and Ban Mae Surin Temporary Shelters and other field locations as assigned.
