1. Background of consultancy assignment/ project
In October 2021, WWF-Foundation began implementing a freshwater conservation project in the Nong Thung Thong Wetland, which is one of the most important freshwater ecosystems in Southern Thailand. The project is funded by Nestle and aims to build the capacity of the local community to implement sustainable wetland management, including developing management plans and resource use agreements. The project will also work to engage local/provincial government institutions in implementing community resource agreements. Based on this model, the project aims to promote community-based management planning in other wetland areas in Thailand.
One of the main project activities is to update and collect baseline data on biodiversity and water quality to inform and guide management and conservation activities. Another important task is to complete the Ramsar Information Sheet for the nomination of Nong Thung Thong Wetland as a Ramsar site.
