Background/IRC Summary:  The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.


SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Coordinator for Community and Government Liaison, the Legal Service for Active Citizen Intern will focus on delivering training programs for Camp-Based Staff, Community Legal Volunteers (CLVs), and Active Citizen Volunteers. The intern will ensure these individuals are equipped with the necessary skills to provide effective legal services. Additionally, the intern will assist in maintaining accurate and comprehensive data in case management systems to support program implementation and service delivery. 

SPECIFIC TASKS:
1.    Provide capacity-building support to Community Legal Volunteers (CLVs), Camp-Based Assistants of P-LAC, and Active Citizen Volunteers. This includes conducting training sessions on legal case management topics such as case intake, basic counseling, referrals, and follow-up procedures.
2.    Assist in coordinating with identified partners to ensure Active Citizen Volunteer initiatives are effectively organized and aligned with program goals and targets.
3.    Maintain accurate and comprehensive data entry for case management systems, ensuring the information is complete and sufficient to support program decision-making and service delivery.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Education: Currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in law.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
•    legal counselling, and legal case management skills.
•    Ability to multitask and handle sensitive issues effectively.
•    Computer literate.

Language Skills:
•    Fluent in Thai.
•    English Can communicate

Other:
•    Understanding of displaced person issues both in and outside camp situations.
•    Awareness of the political effects on quality of life.
•    Able to travel regularly to the refugee camps and along the Thailand – Myanmar border.
