Job Title: Net Free Seas Community Coordinator

Type of appointment: Fixed-term

Remuneration: 45,000 - 60,000 baht per month, depending on experience

Duration of contract: 12 months (potentially renewable or convertible to a permanent position, subject to performance review)

Location: Bangkok based with opportunity to travel often.

The Role

EJF is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Community Coordinator to support the expansion and engagement of the Net Free Seas (NFS) project. The NFS project works to combat marine plastic pollution by engaging coastal communities in the collection, management, and recycling of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG). This role focuses on building relationships with communities in coastal regions in Thailand, enhancing community leadership, and fostering collaboration between communities, recycling partners, and other stakeholders..

 

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with coastal communities in targeted provinces..
    • Engage and train community leaders to take active roles in the NFS project.
    • Support communities in collecting and managing ALDFG and other plastics litter..

Capacity Building and Leadership Development:

    • Organize workshops and training sessions to build community leadership capacity.
    • Provide ongoing support to community leaders to strengthen their participation in marine plastic pollution management.

Collaboration and Partnership:

    • Foster synergy between communities, local governments, civil society organisations, and recycling partners.
    • Coordinate with recycling partners to ensure a sustainable supply chain for ALDFG materials.

Policy and Advocacy Support:

    • Engage community members in policy discussions related to ALDFG and plastic pollution..
    • Facilitate community participation in decision-making processes at the local and national levels.
    • Ensure that community voices are effectively included in the development of policies related to plastic pollution and ALDFG management.

Project Coordination and Reporting:

    • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and activities in assigned communities.
    • Monitor and evaluate project activities and outcomes.
    • Prepare reports and case studies to document project progress and success stories.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of three years experience in community engagement, environmental conservation, plastic pollution or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of plastic pollution issues and ALDFG management.
  • Proven experience working with coastal communities or grassroots organisations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and training sessions effectively.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to plan, organise, and execute activities.
  • Passion for environmental justice and commitment to EJF’s mission.
  • Fluency in Thai and English; knowledge of the Southern dialect is an advantage.
