Title: Contract Psychosocial Interpreter
Number of Consultant: 1
Contry Program: IRC, Thailand
Duration: 3 months (1 October 2025 - 31 December 2025)
Application Deadline: 16 September 2025
Background of the project
With funding support from WorldShare, IRC plans to implement a holistic approach in 3 refugee camps (Mae La, Ban Mai Nai Soi and Ban Mae Surin) that includes both prevention and response activities. This approach was developed based on focus group discussions with refugee youth, which highlighted key factors contributing to their alcohol consumption, such as limited opportunities and lack of engagement in meaningful activities, often leading to boredom and negative coping mechanisms. To support prevention efforts, alcohol awareness campaigns targeting youth in the community will be organized. To encourage meaningful participation among youth, IRC will collaborate with the camp-based Karen Youth Organization (KYO) and the camp’s education committee to identify and track information on students who have left school. On the response side, mass screenings will be conducted for both male and female youth who have left school, using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Youth scoring in the mild range will receive psychoeducation on the risks of alcohol consumption. For those with moderate scores, a six-month intensive intervention program will be offered, including a series of support group sessions and sports activities. Between 15-30% of youth with moderate scores will be selected to participate in this intervention, which includes six support group sessions.
