The Center for Asylum Protection (CAP) provides free legal aid services to urban asylum-seekers and refugees in Bangkok, Thailand. CAP is a part of the People Serving People Foundation (PSPF), a young and vibrant Thai foundation that is focused on human rights, assisting vulnerable populations, and civil society development in the ASEAN region.
We are currently seeking a Protection Officer to join our team and provide legal assistance to refugees.
Responsibilities
Interviewing clients to assess needs and refer to in-house and external services (such as legal aid, safety orientation, livelihood, skill training, mental health counselling, emergency assistance, advocacy, etc.).
Counseling and assisting clients with various legal issues relevant to the Thai justice system, including, but not limited, to immigration, labor, and child protection issues, as well as the National Screening Mechanism.
Conducting legal research for the organization, including relating to new laws and policy developments.
Building and maintaining relationships with local service providers, partners, and academic institutions.
Assisting the legal team as necessary in client contact, interview attendance, viewing and preserving interview transcripts, representation in Thai courts, workshops on protection and on refugee status determination, research and analysis on Thai law, and related functions and activities.
Engaging in advocacy in relation to the status of refugees and asylum seekers with the Thai government.
Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the PSPF management from time to time.
Qualifications
Required
Thai nationality.
University degree
Strong command of oral and written Thai.
Good command of oral and written English.
Good knowledge of legal areas relevant to refugees - immigration, labor, access to justice, etc.
Preferred
University degree in law, but other relevant degrees will be considered.
Other skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into accessible language for clients.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality when working with sensitive client information.
Strong organizational and case management skills, including ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
