The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station attached to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. It is part of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU) which is a collaborative effort between Mahidol and Oxford Universities, and is part-funded by a UK charity, the Wellcome Trust. SMRU’s aims are to:

i. Treat and care for patients with malaria.

ii. Undertake research into malaria in this area in order to determine the best methods of prevention and treatment.

iii) To advise on the treatment and the control of malaria in the South East Asia region and more widely.

Since 2009, SMRU is engaged also in Tuberculosis program with activities on active and passive case findings, diagnosis and treatment of TB patients with updated protocol and best quality of care in full cooperation with national programs and other stakeholders

The IT Helpdesk have to ensure the operations of efficient and effective in IT systems, Network, Software, Hardware and services for the SMRU-MST office, WPA-Clinic, MKT-clinic and MLA-clinic and also support for clinic staff request. Ensure network infrastructure of (domain, internet, email, file system, Lap stock, OPD/IPD, ANC system), training, maintenance and monitoring of all computers and IT equipment.

 

Report to:       IT manager (Maesot)

 

Tasks/Responsibilities:

- Manage hardware & software maintenance of IT equipment including network infrastructure SMRU-MST office, WPA-Clinic, MKT-clinic and MLA clinic.

- Keeps computer equipment, hardware, and software updated to meet organizational needs.

- Provide on-going technical support for SMRU-MST office, WPA-Clinic, MKT-clinic and MLA clinic upon request with a minimum quarterly visits for regular hardware/software maintenance and overall.

- Maintain inventory of SMRU IT fixed assets, equipment and software, identify and report obsolete equipment.

- Manage and maintain SMRU E-mail system.

- Monitor and maintain IT Back-up systems.

- Keep up to date with and recommend new technologies to IT Manager. This includes identification of new IT skills to be learnt.

- Development and installation of information systems in collaboration with the IT department to ensure compatibility with existing systems.

- Deploy and maintain new intra-office applications and groupware suites for office connectivity and productivity.

- Work in conjunction with the IT Manager in the testing of new software or systems schema prior to deployment.

- Maintain internet connectivity and computer hardware to be compliant with SMRU minimum standards in a timely manner.

- Work in tandem with the IT Department to evaluate the quality of services of office Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) and conduct semi-annual evaluations to determine the appropriate level of service based on the number of users per office.

- Maintain and monitoring the SMRU office, WPA-clinic, MKT-clinic and MLA clinic about computer system, resolving computer problems.

- Provide technical documentation of all network configuration and protocol settings.

- Assist with the upgrading and/or replacing computerized parts to maximize efficiency of office.

- Maintain the proper storage of inactive IT assets (computers, printers, UPS’, etc).

- Monitoring computer and virus alerts and quickly notify all staff of any viruses that may cause potential damage to computer hardware/ software or stored files.

- Responsible to ensure all staff complete regular antivirus scans and file backups on a regular basis.

- Provide training and orientation for new staff on IT, network and equipment usage to ensure good operation.

- Assist new staff members to become familiar with SMRU office network systems, protocols and policies; assist in trouble-shooting when staff members encounter problems with the system.

- Support the operations and maintenance of the SMRU’s business application and domain/active directory under the guidance of the IT Manager/IT MORU.

- Other duties delegation by IT Manager and Managements.

 

Essential Criteria

- B.A in IT or equivalent technical college diploma

- 2-3 years in administer of domain network and system / IT industry experience in Helpdesk or desktop support. MCP Certification preferred.

- 3-5 years IT hardware/software including network/system skills, English Moderate. Good interpersonal skills and training/coaching experience.

- Fluent in Karen or Burmese and basic Thai and English

- Good communication skills

- Motivated and able to work under pressure

- Ready to any assignment required by the unit

 

Desirable Criteria

- Experience in data entry and management of data files

- Experience in working with Microsoft Access Database is a plus
