The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station attached to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. It is part of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU) which is a collaborative effort between Mahidol and Oxford Universities, and is part-funded by a UK charity, the Wellcome Trust. SMRU’s aims are to:

i. Treat and care for patients with malaria.

ii. Undertake research into malaria in this area in order to determine the best methods of prevention and treatment.

iii) To advise on the treatment and the control of malaria in the South East Asia region and more widely.

Since 2009, SMRU is engaged also in Tuberculosis program with activities on active and passive case findings, diagnosis and treatment of TB patients with updated protocol and best quality of care in full cooperation with national programs and other stakeholders

 

Tasks/Responsibilities:

-       Organizing upgrade training for all Malaria Post Worker, clinical staffs, and build the capacity of senior staff to deliver 

        training.

-       Work with the health management team to further develop the assessment of staff clinical competencies.

-       Assist SMRU medical team for clinical services improvement projects

-       Coordinate with SMRU medical team and clinic staffs ( MKT , WPA , MLA) regarding patient referrals with Thai hospital

-       Develop and revise SMRU referral guideline (processes/criteria, follow-up and feedback for all referrals)

-       Support SMRU referral staffs at based at Thai hospital in accordance with the referral policy/MOU

-       Quarterly review , analyze and report all SMRU referrals to Thai hospital

-       Attend meetings related to medical as required

-       Other task as required by the unit 

 

Essential criterial

-       Degree in Nursing , Public Health, Medical Science or related field

-       Fluent in Thai, English , Karen and/or Burmese

-       Experience in patient referral

 

Desirable criteria

-       An appreciation of working in a low resource situation

-       Previous experience working on the Thai-Burma border

-       Commitment for a minimum of 1 year

-       Flexibility and capacity to integrate a multi-lingual team
