Program Assistant

Kwah Dao is a registered non-profit organization based in Pai, Thailand, working to empower disenfranchised communities in Pai with the skills, knowledge and education necessary to improve their quality of life and enhance their future opportunities. The majority of the children we serve are from migrant families or are stateless and face countless barriers to education, employment and security. We believe that education is a key factor in enabling the capabilities that allow people to lift themselves out of poverty and build a better future. Our educational programs are designed to expand our students’ opportunities and poise them to make a positive impact on their local communities and throughout the world.

Reporting to:  Executive Director

Salary:                12-15,000 Baht per month depending on qualifications and experience. Position has the potential for promotion and salary increase in the future for the right candidate.

Hours:                35 hours per week full time. Wednesday – Sunday June – March, Monday – Friday April – May.

Duration:             Initial 1 year contract with one month notice required. Position is subject to three months’ probation.

The overall objective of the post is:

The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the organisation. This includes the planning and implementation of the After School Program, aiming to make the Program as effective and efficient as possible within the available budget. They will work with children from underprivileged backgrounds both in groups and individually, assisting with academic work and leading the design and implementation of educational activities aimed at increasing well-being and resilience. They will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as keeping the Kwah Dao Centre well-maintained and in good order. They will be required to assist with all aspects of non-profit organisational tasks, such as communicating with participants, fundraising and liasing with local and provincial authorities, as necessary.

Responsibilities

Programming

  • Supervise the daily schedule and activities for the After School Program on weekends (June – March), and throughout the week for the annual Summer School (March – May)
  • Prepare and implement activities designed to challenge and motivate students on a weekly basis
  • Assist children with homework as needed, identify and provide extra tutoring to children who are struggling in school (Thai/maths) within the After School Program
  • Contribute to the weekly and long-term planning of the After School Program, and to the planning and preparation of the Summer School
  • Transport students to and from the Kwah Dao Centre

Communication

  • Plan and conduct a termly parent meeting and presentation of childrens’ work.
  • Assist with communications with participating families as necessary
  • Liase with local and provincial authorities and produce requested reports and documents
  • Update social media

Maintenance

  • Ensure all materials are kept organised, purchase new supplies as necessary
  • Keep teaching and work spaces clean and secured

Additional (including but not limited to)

  • Support and supervise volunteers
  • Contribute to local fundraising efforts
  • Assist with other organisational tasks as and when needed
  • Translate materials from English to Thai

Qualifications/experience

  • Bachelors Degree or significant professional experience working with children in a non-profit setting
  • Fluent in Thai, competent in spoken and written English
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Basic computer skills
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and able to work independently
  • Clean driver’s license
  • Thai national

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with a non-profit organisation
  • Qualification in development, social work, child development or education
  • Experience in tutoring/teaching
  • Experience organising and running extracurricular activities with children
  • Experience working with other nationalities
