Program Officer, Wildlife Project

The Program Officer will provide program and administrative/logistical assistance to planning, implementing and evaluating communication campaigns, research and other activities to reduce consumer demand for illegal wildlife and wildlife products, and support capacity strengthening interventions under Objective 1 of the USAID Wildlife Asia Project. The Program Officer shall work under the direct guidance and supervision of FHI 360’s Objective 1 Lead/Senior SBCC Specialist of the USAID Wildlife Asia Project.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare powerpoint presentations (PPTs), minutes of meetings, reports of events and other activities implemented under Objective 1
  • Gather information, data and statistics needed to provide evidence to reports, PPTs, other presentations, papers, and other documentation produced under Objective 1
  • Finalize formatting of the above-cited documents and confirm branding with Communication and Outreach Specialist of USAID Wildlife Asia Project
  • Prepare Requests for Proposals for technical, administrative and other service needs under Objective 1
  • Plan and facilitate pretesting of messages and materials, as necessary
  • Be responsible for/oversee translation of necessary documents or presentations in Thai
  • Facilitate networking with youth, faith-based and other groups or networks for implementation of Objective 1 activities
  • Provide monitoring support to research, demand reduction and other Objective 1 activities
  • Support preparation of quarterly and annual reports, and other documents under Objective 1
  • Monitor and report online activities regarding purchase and consumption of wildlife parts and products in Thailand, as necessary
  • Provide support to workplanning and workplan preparation and finalization
  • Provide administrative and logistic support to research, training, events, meetings and other activities under Objective 1


CONTRIBUTIONS:

Will contribute significantly to the achievement of project’s demand reduction goals under Objective 1 and M&E indicators

 
EXPERTISE AND COMPLEXITY:

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of behavior change communication and training/capacity building; project documentation; skills in PPT, word, excel and other social applications; skills in conducting online searches; skills in using social media platforms; skills in facilitating group discussions;  experience in working with USAID-funded programs and branding requirements

 
TYPE AND NATURE OF CONTACTS:

Will have regular contact with relevant staff from NGOs, other organizations and groups involved in the Wildlife Asia project; possible meetings with USAID RDMA, other USG and donor agencies

 
SUPERVISORY AND BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisory responsibility; need to know how to budget project activities e.g., workshop, training, travel costs, how to monitor expenses and prepare expense reports relevant to the activities

 
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Full-time office job; position will have a working space/office in the Wildlife Asia Project office at 208 Wireless Road, Bangkok with travel within Thailand and the Asian region

 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in communication, social marketing, or a related field; experience with biodiversity and/or conservation programs an advantage
  • Understanding of behavior change communication
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting and managing communication programs in a development field
  • Some experience working with market research and creative agencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan and conduct group discussion activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to prepare PPTs, meeting minutes, activity reports, gantt charts and project timetables
  • Demonstrated ability to document activities and workshops
  • Logical and analytical thinker
  • Satisfactory English verbal and written communication skills
  • Good people skills and proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking, and meet deadlines
