Role overview

As an experienced professional, the Gender Advisor will ensure that Gender is embedded in VSOs core programme areas and signature programmes. Support the Lead Advisor – Social Inclusion to ensure Gender is understood as an element of a sustainable development system. The Gender advisor will also support the continued growth of expertise and contribute to the development and delivery of high quality programmes.

Skills, qualifications and experience:

• Relevant post graduate qualification.
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
• Experience of direct work in Gender and development in the South; supporting research, planning and

   implementation of programmes at all levels.

• Experience of working in a developing country.
• Experience of project management i.e. planning, review, and evaluation of community based organizations
• Experience of supporting programmes & measuring impact
• Clear understanding of current issues and trends in Gender and development.
• Demonstrate skills and knowledge at equivalent level to a post-graduate qualification.
• Analytical thinking and ability to plan strategically from an organizational perspective. Confident and

   articulate in systems thinking and working with theories of change.

• Able to build strong working relationships across a large complex global area, and work collaboratively as a

   member of several teams.

• Commitment to VSO’s vision, purpose and values, particularly inclusion in respect of gender.
