Context:

Under the overall supervision of Project Manager, and the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator in Ranong, the incumbent will provide support to the Field Coordinator, the Field Assistant and Community Worker for interpretation and translation in Ranong in the context of the EU-funded project “Promoting stability, well-being and harmony for Myanmar Muslims and host communities in Thailand” (DCI-ASIE/2015/369-583).

 

The incumbent will be based in IOM’s Ranong Office and will be reporting to the project’s Field Coordinator in Ranong whilst working closely with Field Assistant or Community Worker.

 

The project will target the continued vulnerabilities and needs of marginalised population especially Myanmar Muslims in host communities located in the provinces of Tak (Mae Sot), Ranong and Phang Nga. The project activities aim to create stability and harmony by improving living conditions and access to services; standardizing response and care; and, creating coherence and predictability in policy, practice and programming that contribute to the overall wellbeing of this vulnerable group and its host community.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide interpretation and translation service from Thai/ Burmese or other languages spoken by Myanmar Muslims to Burmese or other languages spoken by Myanmar Muslims/Thai for the following activities:
  • Facilitate access to public services by target beneficiaries at Governments and NGOs who are stakeholders of Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) activities;
  • Project activities which involves target communities and community leaders;
  • Data collection and other relevant information of target communities for the preparation of project activities including the challenges and difficulties facing marginalized Myanmar Muslims;
  • A vulnerable assessment, a stakeholder mapping and baseline survey, especially for survey data collection and for follow up group discussion;
  • WASH activity;
  • Distribution of informational materials on safe migration, health, education, livelihoods, and protection in the geographical area of operation;
  • Monitoring and Evaluation activities to get feedback on project activities

 

  1. Assist Field Community Worker in carrying out outreach and education/training activities with the target communities in Ranong, especially for the following activities:
  • Distribution of informational materials on safe migration, health, education, livelihoods, and protection in the geographical area of operation
  • Strengthen and develop new networks with relevant stakeholders, local communities, including local humanitarian community.
  • Collection of data and other relevant information to provide monthly feedback to Bangkok office team on project implementation progress, next steps, and challenges encountered in the field.

 

  1. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Field Coordinator of Ranong.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

  • High School Diploma;
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in interpretation, logistics or procurement. Field community experience is a strong asset;
  • Experience in working effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from various cultures and professional backgrounds at all levels;
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility;
  • Team work oriented;
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Training in Mechanics will be an added advantage;

 

Languages

 

  • Fluency in Thai and Burmese or other languages spoken by target communities. Basic English language skill to communicate with colleagues will be an asset.

 

Other

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.

 

Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
