Title :  Partnerships Officer

Deadline: 30 April 2018

BACKGROUND

Founded in 2007, APCOM is a coalition of members – governments, UN partners, non-profits and community based organisations – from Asia and the Pacific.

We represent a diverse range of interests working together to advocate on, highlight and prioritise health and human rights issues that affect the lives of gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender people and other individuals of sexual and gender identity’s minorities.

Our goals are to improve male sexual health through increased investment, coverage and quality of sexual health services for our communities by:

  • Advocating for sexual health services

  • Advocating for an enabling environment

  • Gathering, generating & sharing strategic information

  • Building a cadre of advocates at all levels

 ABOUT THE POSITION

In order for APCOM to be able to provide effective leadership on advocating for the health and human rights of marginalised communities at regional and country levels, APCOM needs multi-year predictable funding. However, the funding environment for HIV and LGBTI rights is very competitive, with a fast-changing funding landscape in the Asia Pacific region where 'core funding' is in decline for community organizations and networks. APCOM therefore needs to diversify its funding sources and other resources from just programmatic sources to be able to continue to be the critical voice of marginalized communities in the Asia Pacific region.

An area that APCOM is expanding is strategic partnerships with companies from the corporate sector, business operators, foundations and high net worth individuals (HNWIs). The support provided by these companies, organisations and individuals is either direct financial assistance or the donation of products and services.

The Partnerships Officer is an exciting new position which will focus on growing and supporting APCOM’s network of corporate, business, foundation and HNWI relationships in Thailand specifically and across the Asia Pacific region more broadly. The core function of this role is to develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, secure and maintain these partnerships for the sustainability of APCOM.

For this role we’re seeking a confident and motivated person with a solid background in business development, corporate social responsibility, philanthropy/fundraising, marketing/advertising and/or relationship/account management. We’re also seeking a person with a strong interest in equality, human rights and social justice who wants to help make a real difference not only in the lives of people and communities affected by HIV, but also in relation to LGBTI human rights.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new corporate partners, corporate

foundations, business operators, foundations and HNWIs in support of specific programmatic and operational priorities.

  • Develop partnership proposals and cases for support that are tailored to engage new and existing corporate and commercial partners with the work of APCOM.

  • Work with the APCOM Communications and Programme team to develop print and digital

communication assets to assist with engaging new and existing corporate and commercial partners.

  • Undertake research to identify appropriate partnership opportunities as well as the most appropriate contacts across all potential partner organisations.

  • Maintain and update a contact database with information about existing and potential partners.

  • Identify and develop fundraising mechanisms to engage HNWIs, such as giving circles, Friends of APCOM, or endowments.

  • Secure sponsorship, donations of goods, services and unique experiences for APCOM’s annual fundraising gala awards night the HERO Awards.

  • Represent APCOM at functions to develop new partnerships, and maintain partnerships where appropriate.

  • Develop partnerships and connections that have a cultural focus such as with artists, art galleries, film festivals, Pride festivals, cultural festivals, etc.

  • Develop APCOM’s approach to online fundraising, including donations and merchandise sales.

  • Assist in other duties directed by APCOM’s Senior Manager, Communications and Partnerships, and APCOM’s Executive Director
