Driver Vacancy Announcement

 

Position: Driver  (1 open position)

Handicap International (HI) which run its programs under the operating name Humanity & Inclusion seeks a Driver for its Thailand Program based in Mae Sot, Tak province, with frequent travel to Mae La camp in Tak  province.

 Closing date: 17th April ,2017

PROJECT HISTORY

Projects implemented alongside the Thailand-Burmese border were initially enrooted into the Cambodia & Thailand Regional Program Strategy. As from 2016, Thailand projects are framed in the new Myanmar and Thailand Regional team.

The strategy aims at working alongside refugees’ people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Five fields of actions have been identified for action: i) prevention through early detection and early intervention; ii) access to specific rehabilitation and occupational services as well access to prosthetics and assistive devices, iii) inclusion & empowerment; IV) specific support to children with disabilities and their parents; V) prevention through Mine Risk Education activities.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Four projects are currently rolled out alongside Thailand-Myanmar border:

  • Rehabilitation project implemented through provision of physiotherapy and occupational services, prosthetics and assistive devices production and, early detection by training the medical staff. It has been funded by EU Aid for Uprooted People (Tak Province, 3 camps) and UNHCR (2 camps in Sob Moie District, Mae Hong Son) in five camps in total.
  • Disability social inclusion with Livelihood opportunities in the three camps of Tak province, funded by USBPRM and in 2 camps in Sob Moie District, Mae Hong Son funded by UNHCR.
  • Growing Together project in 5 camps (3 Tak camps and 2 camps in Sob Moie District, Mae Hong Son) focusing on enabling children with disabilities or chronic illnesses, children at risk of developmental delays and psychological distress (0-12 years old), to develop their full potential on an equal basis with other children and acquire fundamental educational and social skills through games, sport, cultural arts, early years’ education and complementary learning, as well as support to their family members and/or caregivers.
  • Landmines/ERW risk education in the nine camps along the border, funded by USBPRM.
  • Voluntary Repatriation (cross cutting), funded by UNHCR

 

HI wishes to put strong emphasis on monitoring, impact and lessons learned in order to assess projects’ achievements and outcomes and, to improve the methodologies and approaches proposed by the different projects. Lessons learning process shall involve project partners.

All projects are managed by the designated team leader or manager whom are coached by the Country Manager and Operational Coordinator / Site Admin. Coordinator.  Growing Together is a new project for HI Thailand, in a regional framework between Thailand, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Technical Advisors at Head Quarters level and at Regional level will provide support on the approaches to be implemented.

Main objective of the Driver position: Under direct supervision of Based Logistic Officer and indirect supervision of Logistics Manager in Mae Sot, the driver ensures the following tasks;

 

Responsibility 1: Drive safely HI staff & visitors and transport of goods.

Aim: To provide driving service to support the programme's needs.

Activities:

  • Drive the assigned vehicle for official purposes in a safe, courteous and punctual manner, with respect of speed limit,
  • Adhere and respect strictly to HI transport & security rules and compliance with Thailand Road Traffic Law,
  • Check before any departure that you have all documents in order for the vehicle (photocopy of the insurance, Road license, registration, mission order when required...),
  • Before starting its cars, check all levels, air pressure, general condition of the car, cleanliness,
  • Ensure the assigned vehicles are not utilised to transport people who are either not employed by and/or authorised to travel in that vehicle, uniform personnel and weapon are forbidden,
  • Ensure the use, presence and good conditions of safety equipment’s (car seat belts, fire extinguisher, first aid kit…),
  • Ensures all passengers wear a seatbelt before moving the vehicle and remind safety rules if needed,
  • Maintain/record the vehicle log book for each single car movement and ensure to get signature of passenger responsible to endorse the route/mileage undertaken,
  • Report immediately to the logistics officer any incident and accident which involve HI cars’,
  • Load and unload vehicles goods and ensure to keep it in good conditions,
  • Ensure the security of all passenger’s personal baggage and belongings. Any items left in the vehicle by passengers are to be returned at the earliest opportunity to them in person or delivered to the nearest HI office.

 

Responsibility 2: Ensure vehicles small maintenance (cars and motorbikes)

Aim: To ensure smooth running of all HI’s vehicles.

Activities:

  • Maintain fuel records in accordance with HI transport regulations, always keep at least half tank,
  • Ensure that fuel tank is fully refilled prior to the end of working day,
  • Bring the car on the ramp once a week (on Friday or Saturday if possible), process the Weekly check-up and fill the related form,
  • Maintain the vehicles in clean, tidy and roadworthy conditions,
  • Bring the car to the car wash once a month, once a week during rainy season,
  • Before ending your day, check general cleanliness. Make sure that the windows of the car are closed and light are off,
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the vehicles (check tyre pressure …),
  • Report immediately every problem; update the logbook with a note.

 

Specific missions: In addition, the driver may be requested undertaking any other duty that is considered necessary for the well-running of the service requested by his line manager or by the passenger responsible.

 

Others specific missions required:

  • Support in verbal translation from Thai to Burmese language for the project team while she/he is carrying out trainings, client consultations and community workshops
  • Assist advisor for fixing appointment with the community leaders, and CBOs in refugee camp level as per delegation from the officer (Driver will act only as relay and the role limits to the sharing of information).

 

 

PROFILE REQUIRED:

  • At least Secondary school level
  • 2 years’ work experience as driver
  • Capacity to drive 4WD vehicle
  • Valid driving License
  • Knowledge and aware of driving rules and regulations and skills in basic vehicle repair.
  • Working experience in refugee context is an added value.
  • Knowledge Karen or Burmese language will be an advantage.
  • Good decision making, Good team player, and able to work under pressure with multicultural environment.

 

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Remuneration: According to the experience of the candidate - Attractive package with possibility of transportation/ accommodation allowance.
  • We offer also: nice working environment; 20 days of annual leave with 15 days of public holidays, health, social and life insurance, phone-card credit, bonus at the end of a year (13th salary after the first year of employment); seniority of 2% after the 1st year of employment, training possibilities.
  • Start preferably: 2 May 2018
  • Duration: 8 months renewable
