Seeking a Thai-English translator / research assistant for in-depth interviews in Mae Sot.
I am a Sociology PhD Candidate from the University of California, Los Angeles doing dissertation research on labor migration systems and political economy in Thailand (Mae Sot and Samut Sakhon). As part of this research, I must conduct interviews with local government officials as well as employers and employer associations (e.g., Federation of Thai Industries). Though I speak intermediate/advanced Thai, I am seeking the assistance of a native Thai speaker to help with in-depth interviews.
I aim to conduct interviews in early September (5-12) in Mae Sot, and I will return to Mae Sot intermittently for the rest of the year. Beginning January 2019, I will be based in Mae Sot long term. Therefore, the position starts with a negotiable day rate for translations (based on experience) in September and subsequent visits, as well as additional payment for pre-interview communication and coordinating. Starting January 2019, there is opportunity to have an expanded research assistant role with an agreed part-time monthly rate.
Qualifications:
- Native Thai speaker
- English language proficiency
- Quick learner
- Knowledge/interest in labor migration issues and/or Thailand political economy is preferred though not required (at the least, a willingness to learn about these issues)
- Experience with Thai-English translation
If interested, please send me an email introducing yourself and your experience (include CV), and we can set up a time to chat.
