The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC regional delegation in Bangkok provides assistance to victims of violence and works with authorities in order to improve the conditions in detention facilities. It also endeavours to promote and to strengthen humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
We are looking for a
Thai Speaking Field Officer 100%, based in Pattani
Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader in Pattani, the successful candidate will contribute to the overall delivery of the ICRC’s activities in relation to the situation of unrest in Southern Thailand.
Job purpose:
• Contributes to a further expansion of an integrated response to the needs and the vulnerabilities of the civilian population, particularly within Buddhist communities
• Maintains contact with the ICRC’s interlocutors
• Assists in the preparation, coordination and participation of field activities
• Monitors news reports and shares analysis of any developments in the region
• Promotes the ICRC’s activities in the southernmost provinces of Thailand
Other duties:
• Carries out Thai verbal interpretations and written translations into English and vice versa
• Acts as a contact point with ICRC beneficiaries, answers their phone calls and receives visitors at the office
Your education and experience:
• University degree
• Good command of written and spoken English
• Excellent command of Thai, including professional correspondence
• Experience of preparing official letters would be a strong advantage
• Very good computer skills
• In depth understanding and knowledge of the Buddhist faith
• Good knowledge of geographically assigned environments
Competencies requirements:
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Capacity to integrate and implement ICRC policies and procedures
• Good analytical and communication skills
• Strong motivation for humanitarian work
