Program Assistant Human Welfare and Gender Equity

USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership

based at the consulting firm’s office in Bangkok, Thailand

 

 

On May 14, 2015, Tetra Tech was awarded the United States Agency for International Development Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans) Activity, a regional program working to combat illegal fishing and enhance fisheries’ sustainability. The program is one of the largest current traceability initiatives working to establish digital seafood traceability across Southeast Asia for more sustainable fisheries.

 

USAID Oceans requires a Program Assistant to support the implementation of human welfare and gender equity (HWGE) program activities from its office in Bangkok, Thailand. The Program Assistant will work directly with the USAID Oceans Gender Integration Specialist and in coordination and collaboration with other USAID Oceans team members in the performance of designated tasks.

 

USAID Oceans is a five-year program May 2015 to May 2020. With the program in its final year, this position is limited to 9-month employment period with desired start date of 1 July 2019 through 30 April 2020. In its final year, USAID Oceans is working to strengthen the capacity of partners in human welfare and gender in fisheries, and to share program impacts and progress with regional and global audiences. This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an initiative with the potential of changing the future of Southeast Asian fisheries.

 

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

 

The Program Assistant HWGE will

 

  • Support and assist the USAID Oceans Gender Integration Specialist in:

 

  • Organizing regional and country-specific training and workshops on human welfare and gender equity in coordination with SEAFDEC Human Welfare and Gender focal person;

 

  • Coordinating with expansion site countries on capacity building activities as per their request;

 

  • Coordinating with expansion site countries on the identification and recognition of women leaders and gender champions who are working on sustainable fisheries management, and, drafting their profiles;

 

  • Drafting communication and outreach materials, such as women leaders and gender champions profiles, success stories on gender equality and women empowerment in sustainable fisheries management, inputs for social media, multi-media and advocacy materials on human welfare and gender equality;
  • Performing program level tasks, such as participating in relevant staff and planning meetings, documentation of activities, and providing inputs to activity, quarterly and annual reports.

 

  • Other duties as may be assigned, including performance of designated tasks during the absence of direct supervisor and other program support staff

 

Skills and Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

 

The Program Assistant HWGE must have at least three years of working experience in program management, project implementation, organizing events such as trainings, workshops, meetings, a minimum of a B.S. degree in social science, gender, fisheries management, and related fields, and fluent English language written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience working with international development or non-governmental organizations is strongly preferred, with an interest in capacity building, gender transformative approaches and contributing to environmental and social change. As part of a fast-paced team, the candidate must be highly motivated with the ability to work independently as needed.

 

In addition, the following knowledge and skills are required:

 

  • Advanced professional proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be self-directed and work well independently and as part of a team
  • Good writing skills are essential, particularly in narratives and reporting
  • Knowledge of office software, and social media applications

 

 

This position is open only to Thai nationals.
