Project Coordinator
The overall objective of the program “Global Partnership for Drug Policies and Development” within the budget title “International Cooperation with Regions for Sustainable Development” (IZR, German acronym) is formulated as follows: Interested governments promote development, human rights and public health oriented approaches in drug policy.
The IZR-project GPDPD works globally across different sectors and focuses on four operational fields of action: within field of action (1), the project fosters international drug policy dialogue towards development, human rights and public health-oriented strategies with a focus on the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) and related international fora and decision-making processes. Within field of action (2), the project draws on an alliance of implementation partners to deliver pilot-level advisory services to interested governments in Southeast Asia, Southeast Europa and Latin America. Within field of action (3), the project promotes innovation in international drug policy and contributes to a strengthening of the scientific basis for evidence-based drug policies. In field of action (4), the project promotes its approaches in social media, on its website, and through mobile applications. All operational fields center on and seek to promote alternative development, human rights and public health-oriented drug policy approaches.
The implementation partners in operational field (2) include the Thai Mae Fah Luang Foundation (MFLF) under Royal Patronage and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as well as civil society organisations. GPDPD organizes jointly with its implementation partners activities inside and outside of Thailand. This cooperation takes place on a technical level as well as in the field of international policy making. Besides its close cooperation with the MFLF, the project cooperates closely with Thai authorities in the field of drug policy on a variety of issues, both in the field of alternative development and illicit drug crop cultivation as well as in the field of public health and drug use.
