The German government’s international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, operates world-wide on behalf of German Ministries, the governments of other countries and international clients. GIZ has a record of more than 60 years working in Thailand. The “GIZ Food and Agriculture Cluster” is currently looking for an intern to support the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Intern
The Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) is a global multi-stakeholder initiative led by UN Environment, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The alliance is comprised of over 100 partner institutions representing governments, global private sector actors, SMEs, research institutes, financial institutions, and civil society organizations. The initiative is dedicated to contribute to a sustainable global rice sector by promoting resource efficiency and sustainability in trade flows, production and consumption operations, as well as in sustainable supply chains development. UN Environment currently hosts the SRP Secretariat and serves as its legal entity.
The SRP pursues public policy development and voluntary market transformation initiatives to provide private, non-profit and public actors in the global rice sector with sustainable production standards and outreach mechanisms that contribute to increasing the global supply of affordable rice, improved livelihoods for rice producers and reduced environmental impact of rice production.
Having developed and launched the world’s first rice sustainability standard and performance indicators, SRP is now embarking on its upscaling phase, focusing on implementation of new tools and programmes, including the launch of the SRP Stanadard and Performance Indicators v 2.0, assurance and training programmes, as well as engagement in the policy arena to drive wide-scale adoption. This will necessitate a significant increase in the Secretariat’s human resource capacity.
The SRP Secretariat is seeking an intern with experience in sustainable agriculture and international development, as well as experience and skills in project, stakeholder and knowledge management.
