Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

  1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

 

The project “Supporting National Level Migration Health Coordination Mechanisms in Asia”, funded by the IOM Development Fund, supports the Ministry of Public Health in Thailand to establish multi-sectoral migrant health coordination mechanisms at the national level; conduct national and regional situational analyses on migrant health; and facilitate the development of national level action plans to respond to new global level guidance on principles and priorities for addressing migrant health.

 

Efforts to strengthen migration health coordination at the national level includes establishing multi-sectoral forums that bring together a wide range of key governmental actors, as well as UN agencies, civil society and development partners, in order to enhance coordination and identify strategic avenues for closer cooperation that can be maintained into the future.

 

Under the overall guidance of the Project Coordinator and the technical supervision of the Regional Migration Health Advisor, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the project.

 

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities

 

  • Review and update the existing IOM’s annotated bibliography data and systematic literature review of migrant health research in Thailand and finalize them in close collaboration with the Regional Migration Health Unit.
  • Conduct situational analysis on migration health in Thailand based on the results from the above-mentioned annotated bibliography review. The consultant will organize workshops and conduct interviews with key stakeholders working on migration health in Thailand to update the situations and validate the results.
  • Support the Project Coordinator in organization and logistical coordination of regional and national workshops and meetings on migrant health held in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • Prepare and submit summary reports of regional and national workshops and meetings on migrant health, highlighting the main topics discussed, key outcomes, recommendations, and suggested follow ups.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

  1. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, International Health, Health Systems Strengthening, Social Science, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or University Degree in the above fields with two additional years of relevant professional experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in migrant health, public health, or research.
  • Experience of working with government or in the areas of migration health is considered an asset.

 

  1. LANGUAGES:

 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Thai language is an asset.
