Job Title : Psychosocial Officer

Location:  Mae Sot, Thailand

The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces

Job Overview/Summary:

The Psychosocial officer role includes day to day supervision of the camp-based Psychosocial workers, develop activity planning and monitor the implementation of a psychosocial program in temporary shelters. Psychosocial Officer will ensure psychosocial care is integrated as holistic care within the IRC Health Program as well as to collaborate and advocate with relevant stakeholders to seek essential supports for the refugees with psychosocial needs.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Supervise and provide technical support on day to day psychosocial services to camp based Psychosocial workers in Maela, Umpiem and Nupo temporary shelters
2. Provide support to PSWs and PSP volunteers to develop work plan and perform monitoring of work progress and report to Psychosocial manager
3. Work in collaboration with medical team to provide psychosocial support to patients with psychosocial needs including PHC and RCH
4. With support from psychosocial Manager, develop training plan and conduct training for camp based assistants as needed
5. Collect monthly data and prepare narrative reports to provide updates of the project indicators submit to Psychosocial Manager
6. Assist Psychosocial Manager to conduct need assessment among the affected population, particularly vulnerable groups, including women and children, victims of violence, and youth at different stages of program planning and implementation.
7. Oversee and provide support to PSW to organize campaigns related to psychosocial services.
8. Assist Psychosocial Manager to conduct satisfactory assessment among psychosocial program clients.
9. With support from Psychosocial Manager and medical team, design and develop psychosocial IEC materials which suitable to camp context.
10. Other duty as assigned by Supervisors

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to:  Psychosocial Manager

Position directly supervises:  Camp based Psychosocial workers

Indirect Reporting: None

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Senior Health Coordinator, Health Coordinator, Senior Clinical Managers, IRC health staff in all Thailand sites, Bangkok-based program/sub-grant unit, IRC Women’s Protection and Empowerment program team in all Thailand sites; IRC protection team in all Thailand sites; finance, logistics/supply chain

External:  Local community-based partner organizations, CCSDPT Health Sub-Committee, Thai public health authorities, non-governmental organizations, World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations agencies engaged with IRC programs.

Job requirement

Education:  Education: Degree in Psychology/ Mental Health, Public health, social science, nursing or related filed (Master in psychology/mental health is an advantage)

Work Experience:  Minimum 2 years working experience, working in a temporary shelter is a requirement.

• Working in refugee camp setting or a developing country strongly preferred

Language Skills:  Fluency in English and Thai. Burmese language and Karen language is preferred

Working Environment The position will be based in the IRC office in Maesot with extensive travel to the refugee camps and the Thailand-Myanmar border area.
