Operational Context:
The Assistant Durable Solutions Officer serves as a focal point for solutions related issues in the AOR of the FO Mae Sot, and reports to the Protection Officer. The incumbent has a direct supervisory responsibility for national staff in the Solutions/Field team.
The Assistant Durable Solutions Officer is relied upon to ensure the implementation of a durable solutions strategy, and to contribute to ensuring a conducive environment is maintained leading towards finding durable solutions. Under the technical guidance of the supervisor, the incumbent oversees the outreach activities on Protection and Solutions and ensures that issues and concerns identified in the camps are duly addressed in coordination with other units and partners. As facilitated voluntary return is currently one of the main solutions for refugees in Thailand, she/he is fully engaged in planning and implementation of voluntary repatriation activities on the ground and leads the preparation, pre-departure activities and departure movement.
The incumbent ensures that persons of concern are involved with the Office in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing to their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions. To achieve this, she/he will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities, and NGO partners. As the incumbent assumes the responsibility of government liaison in the field level, demonstrated coordination and diplomatic skills are of particular importance. In addition, previous experience working in refugee protection and/or humanitarian setting is an asset.
