I. Background

For over 50 years, WWF has been protecting the future of nature. As the world’s leading conservation organization, WWF works across 100 countries and is supported by close to 5 million members globally. WWF’s unique way of working combines global reach with a foundation in science, involves action at all levels locally to globally, and ensures the delivery of innovative solutions that meet the needs of both people and nature. WWF has been working in Thailand since 1983 and established a country office in 1995. WWF Thailand has been working on forest conservation for more than a decade, with activities in support of sustainable rubber production, deforestation monitoring and response, and agroforestry.

WWF Thailand seeks to enhance its role in landscape-scale forest restoration and connectivity, in recognition of Thailand’s goal of increasing forest cover to 40%, to improve landscape permeability for wide-ranging species, and to respond to carbon sequestration needs. The incumbent in this position will lead our on-going activities in the sustainable rubber sector, design and implement on-the-ground forest restoration projects, and identify opportunities for expanded roles for WWF Thailand in the restoration of forest ecosystems.

  • Oversee Sustainable Natural Rubber programs related to improving smallholder stature in the supply chain, advancing FSC certification of latex and lumber production plantations, and strengthening multi-stakeholder governance structures
  • Identify opportunities for expanded WWF Thailand collaboration with Royal Forest Department, Forest Industry Organization, Federation of Thai Industries, and Rubber Authority of Thailand on forest management practices that enhance forest ecosystem connectivity and wildlife habitat improvement
  • Map INGO and NGO involvement in forest restoration, REDD+, community forest designation and management, carbon crediting, agroforestry restoration, and the full range of nature-based solutions in Thailand and develop recommendations for expanded WWF Thailand participation in these arenas
  • Engage with corporate partners in the forestry and agricultural sectors to map supply chains and commit to WWF-supported certification schemes
  • Liaise with the WWF Asia Pacific/Greater Mekong Forest Hub and the WWF-International Forest Practice program on regional and global forest issues

III. Required Qualifications

  •  Master's degree or Ph.D. in forestry, forest ecology, forest restoration, or related fields.
  •  7 years of research and/or project management of complex forest conservation projects involving multi-stakeholders
  • Understanding of the forest and rubber sectors in Thailand, including strong familiarity with forest policy and management approaches used by the Royal Forest Department and Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation
  • Knowledge of forest certification and forest industry supply chains
  • Proven experience in Project Management and Proposal Development
  • Proven experience in conducting site assessment, design, and implementation of on-the-ground forest restoration projects  using the full range of passive and active approaches.
  • Knowledge of policy tools used to protect and restore forest landscapes, including REDD+ and Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECM)
  • Fluent in Thai and competent in written and spoken English

 IV.       Working Relationships

Internal
