Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well-being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over forty countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.
Job Overview/Summary:
The driver is assigned to drive for IRC programs in Kanchanaburi, mainly the Ban Don Yang (BDY) camp area, however, he is entitled to drive outside, the assigned area under IRC programs. He is responsible for the security of the person and materials in the car until arriving at the destination. He needs to respect the Thai Traffic rules, the safety orders, the travel schedules and IRC policies.
Major Responsibilities:
• Each morning, perform a daily security check-up on the vehicle before leaving the assignment (e.g., water in the radiator, engine oil, fuel, tire pressure, battery)
• Before departure in the morning or before the end of the day wash the car completely (from outside, inside and the body under the car)
• Inform the Senior driver or Operation officer of any mechanical problem with the vehicle
• Report if any service is needed or is already done to the Lead driver or operation officer and write to the log sheet (with details)
• Upkeep the log sheet for fuel and keep the copy for maintenance parts in each car’s file.
• Check that the tool kit and Emergency box are available in the vehicles before leaving
• Transport only IRC staff, patients, and patients-relatives in the vehicle
• Provide the transportation of the patient and patient relative between the camp and the hospital
• Pick up the patient and the medicine after the patient is discharged and inform the referral officer (health program assistant) before bringing them back to the BDY camp
• Ensure the paperwork works complete for Thai authorities to carry persons or goods.
• Inform the district administrative officer of each patient and the patient’s relative movement (in case of emergency inform a maximum of 24 hours later)
• Carry only the material necessary for the activities of IRC staff
• Ensure proper loading and unloading, tying down supplies when needed
• In case you get requested from another NGO or stranger to transport somebody or something have to inform and get approval from the IRC Field Coordinator
• Respect always the speed of 80 km/hour or adapt the speed to the condition of the roads
• Respect the environment the village and the children on the way to the camp
• Inform the supervisor in case of an accident with the vehicle immediately
• Follow the guidelines (available in the vehicle) when the accident occurs
• In case of any problem, inform the supply chain officer ASAP by phone.
• Be always in the vicinity of the vehicle in the camp and in the office
• Safeguard the vehicles in every feasible way
• Assist the expatriate staff with translation when requested (especially at the checkpoint, hospital, or with the patient)
• Ensure at the end of the day the car is always filled up with fuel, particularly before the Weekend
• Be always aware of responsibility, way, and the time that you are spending (no personal business with/in IRC car without approval)
• Follow the duty roster of emergency referrals from the Ban Don Yang camp
Other Responsibilities:
• Purchase small supplies (buy material…) when requested.
• Inform the health program assistant, the referral officer or the senior health manager of any medical information received about the patient.
• Keep confidential (professional secret) any medical information aware of the patient /victim.
• Be strict on IRC's way and code of conduct.

Indirect Reporting: Senior Driver
Job Requirements:
• At least a certificate of Primary education (M.3) with an official driving license
• At least 3 years’ experience in off-road driving
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance
• Karen speaking is an advantage

Working Environment: The position is a National Position based in the IRC Sangkhlaburi office, with travel to the refugee camps and the Thailand-Myanmar border area as required.
