Communication and Advocacy Officer

Key Accountabilities:

Design Communication and Advocacy Strategies and Plans:

  • Assist the Senior Communication and Advocacy Officer in creating communication and advocacy strategies and plans for the PQD, grounded in in-depth analysis to foster a positive social perception.
  • Integrate the strategic communication and advocacy plans into current programs and future initiatives.
  • Monitor, analyze, improve, and assess the impact of results aligned with the strategic plans.
  • Represent the PQD and/or Raks Thai Foundation in the development and implementation of joint communication and advocacy initiatives for the programs under the PQD's responsibility ("The Program").

 

Implement Effective Learning and Communication Interventions:

  • Collaborate with program staff to develop learning and communication plans, execute agreed activities, and ensure positive visibility for both the program and the organization.
  • Assist Program and PQD staff in creating learning and communication content, materials, and tools that foster a positive social perception and advocate for fair treatment of target groups.
  • Oversee the translation, adaptation, or rewriting of any learning information and communication materials received or produced.
  • Coordinate the production of learning and communication materials in various formats, including publications, visualizations, and online platforms, and manage their dissemination.
  • Identify and suggest learning and communication opportunities, activities, approaches, platforms, and other channels.

 

Collaboration for Advocacy Campaigns and Production Planning:

  • Assist in planning and executing advocacy campaigns aimed at influencing public opinion, policy decisions, and societal attitudes in alignment with the Programs and Raks Thai's advocacy goals.
  • Aid the Program and PQD staff in identifying advocacy partners, networks, and interested agencies, and engage them to participate in the Programs and/or Raks Thai's advocacy activities.
  • Create advocacy content such as publications, briefing materials, press releases, articles, blog/social media posts, and multimedia resources, and store them in Raks Thai’s Knowledge Management System.
  • Promote and disseminate advocacy materials and platforms to launch flagship initiatives, publications, and campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the Program, PQD and/or Raks Thai staff for national and international campaigns and special events.

 

Build Relationships with Media, Stakeholders, and Alliances:

  • Establish advocacy alliances with partners by identifying communication opportunities to raise awareness of program impacts. This includes fostering connections between sub-recipients, partners, and field officers, and soliciting feedback from participants.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, local, national, and international partners, stakeholders, consultants, and donors to support communication efforts and leverage collective resources for maximum impact. Maintain contact details of these collaborators.
  • Represent the Foundation at conferences, meetings, public events, and platforms.

 

Assessment, Monitoring, and Research:

  • Monitor communication and media channels and coverage.
  • Prepare reports and presentations relevant to the work.

 

Any Other Duties:

  • Perform any tasks assigned by the Senior Communication and Advocacy Officer or Program Quality Director.
    1. Demonstrate a visionary, strategic mindset, and a strong commitment to learning and communication in advocacy and media.

 

Person Specifications:

  1. Strong analytical, critical, and creative thinking skills, effective time management, problem-solving abilities, and resourcefulness.
  2. Able to create and manage visually appealing content across various channels, including social media, and understand how to effectively engage audiences.
  3. Able to handle multiple tasks by establishing priorities, managing frequent interruptions and deadlines, utilizing available resources efficiently, and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders. Willingness to assume unanticipated tasks and work flexible hours.
  4. Demonstrate an interest in a career within the NGO field, a commitment to the mission and vision of Raks Thai, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with a project management mentality.
  5. Possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) in both Thai and English for crafting and disseminating messages across various platforms.
  6. Show sensitivity and responsiveness to all partners, maintain respectful, adaptable, and helpful relationships with program staff, partners, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
  7. Maintain good general health.

 

Education and Experiences:

  1. Bachelor's Degree and higher in fields such as Mass Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related areas. 
  2. Minimum Two-Year Experiences in advocacy work, social media management, or digital platforms. 
  3. Proficiency in both Thai and English languages in writing, editing, communication and coordination skills 
  4. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, and proficiency in creative applications like Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), online platforms, and graphic design software (Canva, CapCut) is advantageous.
