The opportunity
Strømme Foundation (SF) is seeking a strategic and resilient Country Representative to lead our Myanmar portfolio from our representative office in Thailand. SF operates through a unique cross-border model with program implementation through local NGO partner/s in Myanmar. This position aims for high quality and impact by providing technical support to implementing partner organizations while navigating contextual risks and challenges. Strømme Foundation’s representative office in Thailand is hosted by ADRA Thailand.
Scope of Employment:
The Country Representative leads Strømme Foundation’s Myanmar portfolio through a remote management model based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The role provides strategic leadership, remote programme management, and technical support to local partners in Myanmar, ensuring quality, impact, and compliance. It also oversees partnership development, MERL support, fundraising, security management, and regional representation on behalf of Strømme Foundation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide remote management and leadership to SF’s implementing partner(s) in Myanmar.
- Develop equitable partnerships and support capacity building of local partners through workshops, learning visits and digital meetings.
- Oversee partners’ program management, provide MERL support and ensure timely and accurate results reporting in line with SF’s guidelines and standards.
- Lead on program development and fundraising initiatives towards donors in Thailand and surrounding countries.
- Represent SF in relevant networks in Thailand and the region.
- Act as security focal point for Thailand and Myanmar.
- Support administration and financial management in collaboration with regional financial controller.
Competencies required
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years of senior management experience in an International NGO
- Proven track record in remote management (or cross-border operations)
- Deep understanding of the Myanmar political, humanitarian and security landscape
- Experience in the full lifecycle of partner management, including due diligence, risk mitigation, and performance monitoring
- Proven record of institutionalising MERL systems and providing technical guidance to ensure local partners meet standards in program delivery and reporting
- Ability to analyse the contextual changes and develop safety protocols
- Master’s degree in Project Management, International Development, International Relations, Human Rights, or a related field
- Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Burmese is an added advantage.
