Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces
Job Overview/Summary: This position will be based in Mae Sot and travel frequently to field clinics inside south east Burma for assisting continued medical education in field clinics and obstetric ultrasound trainings. This position also needs to work closely with Mae Tao Clinic (MTC) and ethnic health organizations and provides continuous onsite technical support to health workers from Ethnic Health organization on developing technical competency for identification and appropriate and timely referral of high-risk pregnant mothers.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist in training of field CBO partners’ health workers on how to use obstetric ultrasound and maintenance of ultrasound machines in field clinics.
- Provide onsite technical support to PLE health CBO partners in ANC, delivery and PNC.
- Assist PLE Senior Health Coordinator, Roving Health Coordinator and Senior Clinical Coordinator for data collection, data entry and record keeping for monitoring and evaluation
- Promote partner relationships based on principles of mutual trust and respect, mutual accountability, inclusion and transparency
- Represent IRC and the project professionally and competently at all times
- Undertake any other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirements:
Education: Nursing or Midwifery certificate
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in working with Ob/Gyn specialist
- Familiar with using obstetric ultrasound in the resource limited setting
- Experience in working with different ethnic health organizations along the Thai- Burma border
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Strong communication skills with different ethnic groups of Myanmar (Burma)
- Physically fit and willingness to travel to hard to reach/ remote areas
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability deal with Thai and Myanmar Health staff
- Able to work independently while being a member of a team
Language Skills: Fluency in Burmese, and English is essential; other local ethnic languages such as Karen, Karenni, Shan, Mon, etc.) is advantage
Certificates or Licenses: Midwife/or Nursing
Working Environment: Understanding of the situation along the Thailand-Burma border and standard office work environment is applicable for most of the time: for example, Internet connections, electricity, and amenities.
