Position title:                   Major Donor Manager (Thai Nationality only) 

Directly reports to:           Country Director, WWF Thaiand

Location:                          Bangkok, WWF Thailand

 

 

Major Function

The Major Donor Manager develops, promotes, implements and manages WWF- Thailand Major Donors Program, including the development of comprehensive plans for identifying, soliciting and securing major gifts from high net worth individuals.  The incumbent will strategize with the key volunteer leadership (in case WWF Thailand is granted a local foundation status), Country Director, and Marketing/Fundraising Manager on how to build new and maintain old relationships. The incumbent will support the management of WWF Thailand in raising major gifts for WWF-Thailand and manage and steward all relationships with current and prospective major gift donors.

 

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop the major donors strategic plan with Country Director and Senior Management Team, and Board of Director (once the foundation status is granted later in year 2017);
  • Plan and prepare annual budgets, monitor performance and take remedial action where necessary to achieve net income budget;
  • Develop, manage and enhance strategies to increase the depth of relationships with existing supporters;
  • Identify, research and evaluate prospective donors;
  • Manage all major donor relationships to maximise income and lead generation, including timely follow-up;
  • Work with The Team to build deep relationship and gain major donors long term support, involving other colleagues where appropriate;
  • In collaboration with Conservation Manager/Project Managers identify projects requiring funding that are most attractive to the donors;
  • Communicate effectively to internal and external constituencies on the progress, success and results of the major gifts program;
  • Communicate accurate and up to date information about tax efficient giving to potential donors;
  • Develop proposals and give oral presentations where appropriate;
  • Develop networks of contacts to exploit fundraising opportunities;
  • Ensure donor records are up to date in the database, maintain good records of all donor contacts;
  • Be mindful of a sometimes hectic and demanding schedule, plan wisely and efficiently;
  • Work closely with Marketing/Fundraising Managers to ensure that all marketing initiatives are coordinated as part of the departmental objectives and overall strategy;
  • Comply with all WWF-Thailand policies and procedures;
  • Participate in the WWF performance management program including regular performance reviews and prepare and work in accordance with an individual work plan;
  • Work in accordance with management directions.

 

This TOR covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to organizational needs.

 

 

Working Relationships

 

a) Work Performed

The position develops and implements strategies to increase funds raised from major gifts and maintains and develops relationships with existing and new key supporters to increase the level of support to WWF-Thailand.  In consultation with Country Director, Senior Management Team, the position develops promotional materials for major gift solicitation. The position identifies, researches and evaluates major gifts prospects, prepares relevant funding proposals for new and existing supporters and manages the contact process, including timely follow-up.  The position works closely with the key volunteer leaders (Chair of the Board of Directors, Chair and members of the Board’s Development Committee…), and coordinates major donor events when required.

 

b) Challenges/Problem Solving

The position plans, implements and delivers regular plan to generate and grow strong, long-term sustainable income from major donors. 

 

Establishing and maintaining new relationships is a key component of the position. Externally the position holder communicates with a range of major donors, requiring consistently high levels of personal attention, presentation and interaction.  In collaboration with Conservation Manager, Marketing/Fundraising Department and other relevant staff the position holder develops proposals and products for prospective donors. The incumbent will develop annual financial goals and plans with input from Country Director, Senior Management Team, and the Marketing Director (The Team). 

 

c) Decision Making

The position works with a high level of autonomy on a day-to-day basis within the agreed work plan.  Working with The Team, the position holder establishes and agrees a strategic relationship building plan for existing and potential key supporters, including organising meetings or visits with supporters where required.    Day-to-day relationship management with existing and new major donors is the responsibility of the position. The position holder consults with Country Director on areas of uncertainty or ambiguity in relation to potential relationships.

 

d) Communication

Teamwork is the preferred way of working within WWF and this necessitates regular communications with The Team and other staff. Internally the position holder communicates at least weekly with Country Director and Senior Management Team. Monthly communication is undertaken with Senior Management Team to share information and seek supports.

 

Externally the position holder communicates regularly with existing major donors to facilitate growth and maintain positive, beneficial relationships.  The position holder  works very closely with members of the Board of Trustees, Country Director, and the Manager of Marketing/Fundraising to ensure their good relationship with the donors continue.

 

The position is responsible for proactively seeking new opportunities, establishing contacts and developing new relationships.  Appropriate communication styles and protocols are required to ensure positive, beneficial outcomes, including proposal formulation and formal presentations

 

 

Requirements

 

Essential

  • Ability to work with high net worth and high power individuals;
  • Ability to staff and support Country Director, Senior Management Team, Board of Director (if available) in expanding the major gifts program; Proven excellent written and verbal skills with experience in writing and presenting proposals;
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through;
  • Good with details yet able to grasp concepts, systemic issues and strategies;
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship building skills;
  • Demonstrated highly developed persuasion skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of taxation issues as they affect supporters and not-for-profit organisations;

 

Desirable

  • Previous corporate sales experience;
  • Previous experience in private banking account management/wealth management;
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit in a similar role (optional);
  • Interest in conservation and sustainable development.
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Business or a related field or equivalent experience.
